What are Slewing Bearings?
Slewing ring bearings are specialized components engineered to facilitate intermittent rotation in applications that involve slow movement and substantial loads. These bearings typically comprise an inner and outer ring, made from robust materials such as carbon steel, chrome steel, stainless steel, brass, plastic, or anodized aluminum. Most slewing ring designs incorporate ball bearings or other rolling elements to ensure smooth rotational motion. Available in a diverse array of diameters—from just a few inches to over three meters—these bearings are essential in numerous industries and applications.
The design and construction of slewing ring bearings are critical to their functionality. They are specifically engineered to handle not only axial loads but also radial and moment loads, allowing them to endure the challenges posed by real-world operational conditions.
PBC Linear Slewing Ring Bearings
The MT Series slewing bearings offer optimal economy and capacity for diameters up to 12.205 inches (310 mm). They are also gearless. The heavy-duty bearings, with their rectangular cross-section, serve as an economical replacement for other slewing bearings on the market. The deep groove raceways and maximum size balls provide higher moment, thrust, and radial load capacities than typical four-point contact slewing rings.
The bearing grooves are also equipped with larger seals and non-contact dust covers that help block contaminants. With these advanced features, the MT Series sets a new standard for reliability and performance in demanding rotational applications, providing a superior alternative to traditional slewing bearings.
The bearing comprises an inner and outer ring made of medium carbon steel. Each ring features at least one precision raceway designed to transfer loads and relative motion between different equipment structures.
Hardened chrome alloy steel balls act as the rolling elements, facilitating relative rotation and load transmission between the inner and outer rings.
Plastic spacers separate the rolling elements and are engineered to reduce friction, skidding, and jamming during rotation.
Slewing ring bearings have uniformly spaced through holes. If a special bolt pattern or tapped hole is required, contact our application engineers.
Each side of the slewing ring bearings is equipped with an elastomer seal to retain lubricant and protect the bearing from dust and small particle contamination.
A grease fitting is provided in one of the bearing rings for periodic lubrication of the raceway and internal components, with larger bearings having more fittings.
